Our Trebuchet: The Ng Dynasty Tree Bucket
Reflection
In this project I especially enjoyed was taking charge in using tools and brainstorming and sharing ideas with the group. I helped by assembling pieces to build the trebuchet and taking down and organizing data from the test runs with the different rubber bands. I learned that when I work with a group for awhile and am comfortable around all the group members I am more likely to speak up and contribute my thoughts. When assembling the car, I helped by pitching in ideas to make the passengers safer in the ride and stop them from flying out of the vehicle during the ride. I feel like one of my high points was taking charge and offering to start making the presentation and get some of the important research slides done. We were already running behind on time and I would like to hope that my taking charge on the presentation and starting the organization of the slides and the research for the cost of the car and the formatting of the slides took some weight off of my teamates' shoulders and helped contribute to getting the project done on time.
I feel like I'm still struggling with the same areas, taking leadership in building and taking leadership in doing some of the calculations for out machine/ action/ project. I hope to improve on this in further projects because this is an area i greatly struggle with. Now I'm viewed as quite a gifted person in the mathmatics area, but just because I'm considered good at it doesn't necessarily mean I enjoy it, because of this I tend to stray away from the calculations and more towards the presentation of out project. Also I'm not a very strong headed, opinionated person, so I struggle with taking a leadership role in general. I find it much easier to lead when I'm passionate about something and since math doesn't particularly make me "fired up" or energetic or anything, it is still important and I hope to improve upon this weakness in our next project. I suppose I find working with tools and taking leadership in building because I'm not the most coordinated person. In fact, I would be considered quite clumsy and unlucky when it comes to my coordination ability. I tend to stray away from the big scary pointy tools because I'm scared of injuring others, but sometimes you have to take a risk to succeed so in our next project where we get to build some physical object using the tools I hope to keep my promise to myself and take charge my getting hand "dirty", although they will probably be more sawdust-y than dirty.
